Terms of Sale

Version 1.0 · effective 1 November 2026

These Terms of Sale apply to every purchase made by a consumer on jianyingchinese.com. You accept them by ticking the box before each payment; the version you accepted is saved with your order and shown in your confirmation email.

These terms are available in English and French.

1. Who we are

Jianying Chinese is run by Qilu — 78 avenue des Champs-Élysées, 75008 Paris, France.

SIRET 841 654 577 00045 · TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI.

Email: contact@jianyingchinese.com

2. What we sell

  • Lesson credits: 1 credit = one 50-minute live online Mandarin lesson with Jianying; 0.5 credit = one 25-minute lesson. Lessons take place by video in your browser.
  • Monthly subscriptions: 1, 2 or 3 lessons per week (4, 8 or 12 credits each month), with the option of a fixed weekly lesson time.
  • Flashcard decks: digital content added to your Jìyì review space, with access for as long as the service exists.
  • Online courses: recorded video lessons with their materials, with access for as long as the service exists.

You need an internet connection, a recent browser and, for live lessons, a camera and microphone.

3. Prices and payment

Prices are shown in euros (EUR) and are the total you pay. VAT not applicable, article 293 B of the French General Tax Code.

Some students have a personal price agreed with us; it is shown to them before paying.

Payment is taken when you order, by card or the other methods offered on the secure payment page of our provider Stripe. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts the amount and may charge a fee; the amount we charge is always the euro price.

We may change our prices; the price shown when you order is the one you pay. For subscriptions, see section 6.

4. How an order works

You choose a product, read the summary and the price, tick the boxes to accept these Terms of Sale and the Privacy Policy (and the withdrawal box described in section 9), then pay on the secure payment page.

The contract is concluded when the payment is confirmed. You receive a confirmation email with the details of your order, the version of these terms you accepted and your withdrawal choice.

5. Lesson credits and lessons

Credits are valid for 3 months from the date they are added to your account (purchase or subscription renewal). Credits not used within 3 months expire and are not refunded. When you book, the credits that expire first are used first. Your balance and any credits expiring soon are shown in your account.

You book lessons in your calendar on the website. Cancelling or moving a lesson:

  • at least 6 hours before it starts: the credit is returned to your account;
  • less than 6 hours before it starts, or if you do not attend: the credit is used.

If we cancel a lesson, or it cannot take place because of a technical problem on our side, the credit is always returned.

6. Monthly subscriptions

A subscription starts on the day you pay and renews automatically every month on the same date, at the same price, until you cancel it. Each payment adds the credits of your plan (4 × lessons per week), valid 3 months.

Your renewal date and price are shown in Settings → Subscription. If we change the price of your plan, we tell you by email at least one month before it applies; you can cancel before then.

Change of plan: an upgrade applies immediately and you pay the difference for the current month; a downgrade applies from your next renewal.

Pause: you can pause your plan for 2 weeks or 1 month in Settings → Subscription. You are not charged for the paused period and it restarts automatically afterwards.

Cancellation: you can cancel at any time online in Settings → Subscription → "Cancel my subscription" → "Confirm cancellation". The cancellation is immediate: no further payment is taken; the current month is not refunded, but the credits you already received stay valid for 3 months and lessons already booked still take place. Reserved weekly times without a booked lesson are released. You receive a confirmation email.

7. Flashcard decks and online courses

Access is given right after payment, in your account. It is for your personal, non-commercial use: content may not be copied, shared or resold.

8. Weekly lesson times

With a subscription you can reserve a fixed weekly lesson time within your plan. Each weekly lesson uses one credit (0.5 for 25 minutes). A week that has no credit available stays "reserved — needs a credit" until you confirm it with a credit; if it is not confirmed 48 hours before, it is released.

9. Right of withdrawal (14 days)

You have 14 days from your purchase to withdraw from it, without giving a reason. To do so, send us a clear statement — for example the model form at the end of these terms — by email to contact@jianyingchinese.com. We refund you within 14 days of receiving it, using the same payment method.

Lesson credits and subscriptions: before paying, you ask for your lessons to be able to start within the 14 days. If you then withdraw, you pay for the lessons already taken (at the price you paid per credit) and the rest is refunded. Once all the lessons you bought have been taken, the right of withdrawal no longer applies (articles L221-25 and L221-28 1° of the French Consumer Code).

Flashcard decks and online courses: before paying, you ask for immediate access and expressly give up your right of withdrawal. The right of withdrawal therefore does not apply once access has been given (article L221-28 13°).

10. Legal guarantee of conformity

Our digital content and services are covered by the legal guarantee of conformity (articles L224-25-12 and following of the French Consumer Code). If something does not work as described, tell us at contact@jianyingchinese.com: we will fix it within a reasonable time or, if that is not possible, reduce the price or refund you.

11. Liability

We do our best to provide the lessons and content as described. We are not responsible for problems caused by your own equipment or internet connection. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer.

12. Personal data

How we use your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

13. Complaints

For any complaint, please write to contact@jianyingchinese.com; we answer as quickly as possible.

14. Applicable law

These terms are governed by French law. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer rules of that country. Disputes go to the competent courts under the applicable rules.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version accepted when you ordered applies to that order. For subscriptions, we tell you about changes by email at least one month before your next renewal; you can cancel before then.

Teachers may upload images or select images from third-party libraries (such as Pexels) to include in lesson materials. By uploading or selecting images, teachers represent that they have the right to use such images and grant Jianying Chinese a non-exclusive license to display them to students as part of the learning materials. Teachers are solely responsible for ensuring that any uploaded content does not infringe on third-party intellectual property rights.

Acceptable Use of Uploaded Images

Teachers must not upload images that are offensive, illegal, or infringe on the rights of others.

Additional Terms — Video Clips

Use License

The short-form video clips and other educational videos made available on Jianying Chinese (the “Clips”) are provided for personal, non-commercial viewing within the Service only. You may not download, copy, reproduce, screen-record for the purpose of redistribution, rehost on other platforms, or incorporate the Clips into derivative works without our prior written permission. Where a Clip is offered with an explicit download option, that download is for your personal use and does not transfer ownership or any other rights in the Clip.

Use of Third-Party Film, Television, and Series Excerpts

Some Clips include brief excerpts from films, television programmes, or series for the purpose of illustration for teaching and quotation. Such excerpts are used in reliance on the educational and quotation exceptions to copyright provided by Articles 5(3)(a) and 5(3)(d) of Directive 2001/29/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the harmonisation of certain aspects of copyright in the information society. All rights in those excerpts remain with their respective owners. We endeavour to credit the source of each excerpt within the Clip or in accompanying text, and we limit our use to what is necessary to illustrate the teaching point being made.

Copyright Concerns and Takedown Procedure

If you are a rights holder and believe that any Clip on Jianying Chinese makes use of your work in a manner that is not authorised by law, please contact us at privacy@jianyingchinese.com with: (i) a description and identification of the work concerned; (ii) the URL or other location of the Clip in question; (iii) a statement that you are the rights holder or are authorised to act on their behalf; and (iv) your contact details. We will review valid notices promptly and, where appropriate, remove or restrict access to the Clip pending further assessment. We may share the substance of a notice with the affected uploader, who may submit a counter-notice if they believe the use is permitted by law.

Age Requirement

Use of Jianying Chinese, including viewing of Clips, is restricted to users aged 16 and over, in line with the digital-consent threshold applicable under the EU General Data Protection Regulation in our principal jurisdictions of operation. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this minimum age requirement.
